7 Must-Dos to Keep Your Feet in Tip Top Health

No matter how many shoes you’ve owned, you only get one pair of feet. From your home to Timbuktu, take care of them and they’ll take care of you.

Whether we take them for granted or not, our feet take us from A to B, with about 5,000 steps any giving day or the equivalent of 2.5 miles. Not to mention that they have to bear our weight every step of the way. And to top it off, we squeeze them into shoes and stand on them all day long. Our hard-working feet deserve a tad bit more attention than we’re probably giving them. Here’s the question we need to ask ourselves.

What kind of preventative care do my feet need? Well, here’s a list of a few:

  1. Clean them in warm water, but avoid soaking them because this could dry them out.
  2. Keep from wearing the same pair of shoes every day. Rotate them.
  3. Refrain from wearing tight-fitting shoes; your feet should not hurt.
  4. Avoid flip-flops and flats. They do not provide enough arch support.
  5. Use a nail clipper to trim your toenails straight across and smooth the corners with a nail file to prevent it from growing into your skin.
  6. Give them a daily checkup, which consists of looking for cuts, swelling, sores, and infected toenails.
  7. Use moisturizing lotion, cream, or petroleum jelly but do not do so between your toes as the moisture in this area increases the risk of infection.
